Email SMTP Sending Issue

Hi Support,

I’m getting the following message when logged into my quickfile account…

It states:

//

Your emails are currently configured to send from a custom email address, but no SMTP service has been configured. This will likely result in some emails getting flagged as spam, due to the reverse DNS not matching. For the non-technical fix, please set noreply@quickfile.co.uk as your sender address (fix this for me!). Otherwise please configure your own SMTP service or add an SPF record to your domain. Find out more here…

//

I have tried all possible way to get the email SMTP to work… I know the details I am inputting are correct… I’m a web dev so I get how it all works… I have been on to my hosts… see if they could spot any possible issue of…

We think my email/hosting is blocking you/the quickfile site

They have asked if you could provide the IP…

They state:

//

Hi Paul,

Those settings look correct. This would seem to indicate that QuickFile may have been blocked in the server’s firewall for too many login failures previously.

Could you check and confirm what the IP address(es) used by the QuickFile service are? Then we can ensure they aren’t being blocked.

//

Could you please advise on the IP?

In the SMTP setting I have the following message too… even though I know 100% the setting are correct…

//

It looks like there was a problem reaching your SMTP service
Error Message Your SMTP settings are deactivated as there were three consecutive errors . Please correct the settings again and reactivate.
More Details Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Access denied - Invalid HELO name (See RFC2821 4.1.1.1)

//

Also could you please explain what the setting in SMTP for the email address “Send activation email to” field actually does/is for…? I haven’t found anything currently explaining this?

Any help and info regarding any of the above will be greatly appreciated…

Kind Regards,

Paul

EDIT:

further to the above I would like to add that I did send over some server infor regarding quickfile.co.uk… at which I got the following reply… they say it is an issue with the Handshake… please see below… I hope this helps :slight_smile:
My host support after being given info on the IP regarding quickfile.co.uk state:

//

Hi Paul,

It does look like that IP address is correct, as I’m seeing some failed SMTP connections from it:

2016-08-25 16:19:43 SMTP connection from [5.2.17.182]:50129 (TCP/IP connection count = 13)
2016-08-25 16:19:49 TLS error on connection from [5.2.17.182]:50129 (SSL_accept): error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)
2016-08-25 16:21:34 SMTP connection from [5.2.17.182]:57222 (TCP/IP connection count = 8)
2016-08-25 16:21:34 H=(WEB2) [5.2.17.182]:57222 rejected MAIL info@pixelism.co.uk: Access denied - Invalid HELO name (See RFC2821 4.1.1.1)
2016-08-25 16:21:34 SMTP connection from (WEB2) [5.2.17.182]:57222 closed by DROP in ACL
2016-08-25 19:22:27 SMTP connection from [5.2.17.182]:52093 (TCP/IP connection count = 9)
2016-08-25 19:22:33 TLS error on connection from [5.2.17.182]:52093 (SSL_accept): error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)
2016-08-26 20:08:52 SMTP connection from [5.2.17.182]:50970 (TCP/IP connection count = 8)
2016-08-26 20:08:58 TLS error on connection from [5.2.17.182]:50970 (SSL_accept): error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)

However, the IP address 5.2.17.182 is not being blocked in your server’s firewall.

The above log entries indicate that QuickFile is unable to generate a successful SSL handshake with the server though. I’d recommend copying that info over to QuickFile for their investigation and they should be able to correct this on their end.

//

If you could advise and shed any light on this that would be great.

Kind Regards,

Paul

Our server IP range is 5.2.17.178 to 5.2.17.192. At the moment our web server will call via 5.2.17.182.

This is not a setting as such, but a separate email where we will send the activation code via your SMTP server (purely for activation). We avoid having the sender and recipient address the same for activation, as some email servers don’t allow this type of relay.

Hope that helps!

Hello Glenn,

Many thanks for your time and answers to my questions… I have reported back what you have said to my Hosting company…

For reference I have quickfile added as an SPF etc and they say that the IP range is not being blocked… their reply being:

//

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the update. I see your SPF record is already configured to authorize quickfile.co.uk to send mail on behalf of your domain.

However, this means that (if supported) QuickFile can also send mail directly from their server instead of relaying it through your Premium Web Hosting plan. This may resolve the compatibility issue you’ve experienced if it’s an option they can provide you.

Alternatively you’ll need to ask them to look into why their server is rejecting the SSL for uk601.directrouter.com

//

Would you be able to check and see if there is an issue with the SSL as above?

Many thanks Paul
