Standard Name Format

Hello,

Would it possible to export data from Quickfile in Standard Name Format?

I believe it would help many accountants who use one the accounts/tax production packages listed in the link below.

More information here: http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/snf/

Thank you.

Hi @Filan

It’s not something that’s come up before, but we’ll keep an eye on this topic, and will happily look into this further if there is an interest from the community.

You can currently export all data in CSV format which is pretty universal too, and can normally be imported or exported from many software packages. If you need help exporting or importing data from/to QuickFile in this format, please let me know.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

CSV is great and I use it a lot, but SNF is rather popular within the accounts/tax production packages.
Unfortunately, at the moment Taxfiler does not accept CSV for importing into the Tax Package :unamused:

Just had a quick look at the link above and it doesn’t look overly specialist, the CSV download should be able to be converted to SNF format quite easily as it is effectively just a text file in a particular format with a specific file extension, which is all that a CSV is.

I can convert CSV to SNF, it’s not a problem. The issue is that Taxfiler is not able to correctly allocate the postings. Please read below.

“Data format
Data is copied to the clipboard or saved in a text file in the same format. The format consists of a line for each tax return box. The lines are separated by carriage return and linefeed characters. Each line consists of the standard name for the tax return box, a tab character and the amount in the box. The amount should not contain any thousands separators such as commas. The sign convention for the amount should be the same as that used on the tax return. The standard name is followed by the word Disallowable to identify disallowable expenditure.”

That’s the bit that I read that says it is simple, to some extent. You say you can convert to SNF, but it doesn’t work so does that mean that actually you can’t? Sorry, trying to read between the lines here. I appreciate that if you are not into programming/scripting & file formats it is probably not as simple as should be.

Apologies for not being clear enough. The conversion itself works fine and I am able to upload the file onto Taxfiler. The problem is with mapping. They do not match because nominal codes from Quickfile do not correspond with tax return boxes - and this is what SNF is about. In my understanding (and I am not into programming at all) accounts from chart of accounts in Quickfile should be grouped together, so they can be uploaded to the correct box in Taxfiler’s tax return. I am not sure whether it makes it any clearer - I am trying though

@Filan feel free to sent me an example “Standard Name Format” file on a private message. I can then pass it on to the developers. I can’t promise anything but we can certainly take a look for you.

Hi Glenn,

You will find a sample SNF file here:

Thanks

Did anything happen about this? TaxCalc will import accounts using SNF. That would be useful for me!
