I currently have the power user subscription, which opens up some useful features especially in bulk entry, however where this lacks is the ability to check for duplicate references, so for supplier invoices this feature is problematic if i have printed more that one copy of an invoice emailed to me by a supplier assuming that i hadn’t already printed it, and remembering what i have entered is near impossible, as our account rating on here is XL as we have over 4000 nominal transactions.
Is it possible to have this feature included for power users?
I think the problem we’ll have is available horizontal screen space for adding more and more columns. I think it would not make for a great user experience having to side scroll the screen. Perhaps there’s another way to solve this which we could look into.
If other users would find this useful we could definitely take a look.
Could it not go in a box above the supplier select drop down? this wouldn’t take any more space up width ways and would only add minimal height to a row, which scrolling up and down would be expected when entering purchases in bulk.
Also a check-box in the row title next to “Supplier” would probably help to show it if required or not, as I know not every user uses the reference column, I do for invoices which I have loads of, and similarly for till receipts its no use so if I was just entering till receipts I wouldn’t need to show the box.
Just my thoughts, even though I have the power subscription, i have had to revert to either manually putting each one in, although I cant as when i press certain keys the short-cuts kick in, and while a nice idea, the stop me from entering info as i keep getting directed to a new screen and loose all info I have put in and have to start again, cant find an option to disable this feature.
So I left with CSV imports, which is fine, but again a downside of not being able to have a template for excel, that I can select my suppliers from becomes a pain, as if they don’t match exactly, it creates new suppliers, which if unknown can be a big pain when tagging.
We can definitely look at this if we can get more support. To be quite honest we get so many feature requests now we can only realistically focus on those that get the most attention.
We’re also doing a significant rebuild at the moment so feature-wise I’m afraid not much will be happening over the next month or two. Certainly if we can get more support from other users on this it will build a stronger case. These things seem simple but can often take days to implement.
Supplier reference for bulk purchase entry would definitely be a worthy feature to add.
The bulk purchase entry is another good idea from the QF team, but in it’s current form it defeats the object (in my opinion), just as it is said simply because the invoices cannot be identified. For a small company it might be ok, but I am not sure if any other users would make use of this simple but good tool.
As you have said you do receive a great deal of feature request and you can only deal with some of them, but in my opinion this is one worth to implement, simply to complete what is a truly great feature!
I’m not averse to adding a purchase reference column, I’m just not sure how it would fit in? I have quite a large display and even for me it would end up looking quite cramped with another column in there.
Perhaps it could float underneath the description box? Although that would have the effect of doubling the row heights, either way some compromise would need to be made.
I see your point. Perhaps (and I might make enemies here ) you could replace the supplier column with the purchase reference. In this case you would only be able to enter bulk invoices for the same supplier, so the tool would only work if you have several invoices from the same company. An other option to consider (though I am not sure how much work that would involve on your side) is a sort of drop down or tick list, where the user could choose which option to use. Does that make any sense?
Thanks for your reply,
Csaba
The supplier column can’t go, that would definitely cause upset
I prefer the tick box option to reveal additional options, although I think the purchase reference box should sit underneath the main invoice description but optionally revealed.
As you have said before this would have the effect of doubling the row heights, but in my opinion that is perfectly fine (especially if it is optional). I leave you (and your team) to ponder about whether it is something worth to implement in the future.
Thanks again,
Csaba
Yeah space does seem rather tight, its ashame the sidebar cant be popped in and out as it fills a large portion of the left of the screen.
You know like support tabs do, only with the clickable tab saying options, i understand they are there for ease of use and should be on some pages such as the dashboard.
But on other pages, all the options i need are in the top menu bar, which i use, and as i use windows as like most, its more akin to using the taskbar & start menu.
Only on very rare occasions have i used the left bar and it may have only been for one item.
I use QF from several places, at work i use 2 standard monitors not widescreen, so on either screen the bulk purchase entry screen is cramped as it dont adjust well with my screen sizes, other places i use 21 and 23 inch widescreen monitors and its alot easier on the eyes. (although i doubt alot of users have large screens prices are still high for those who dont have much money)
One of the issues of space is that QF isnt responsive in design, which i can understand, as if it was some things may not work as intended or just not be seen.
We’ve thought about optionally hiding the side bar. In fact with a power user subscription you can do this quite easily in CSS. I’m happy to do this for you if you wish? We can easily change it back later.
Also we can adjust the appearance of the invoice list to shrink those status labels and darken the links. Just let me know if you want us to make those changes for you.
I think we’ve figured out a way to implement the “Purchase Ref” field without causing too much disruption. We’ll look at this further today or early next week.
@dabs@csaba I’m pleased to say that this has now been implemented. We decided to add a check-box that will optionally reveal a purchase reference box (for sales invoice) and supplier reference box (for purchase invoices). Each of these boxes float under the description field.
