Bank Feeds - hit and miss

Still a noob with QF but learning to love it. With one exception…Bank Feeds!

I have a Santander account and the Chrome extension is set up and working. I can login perfectly well to my bank account but I do struggle getting feeds from that account. I did it once before today and sucked in everything, tagged everything and felt pretty pleased with my self. A month later I had no idea HOW to get the feeds in to QF. After 20-30 mins of various clicking frenzies I found a button at the bottom of a Santander page to export to QF…but for the life of me I can’t find it now. So Q1 is where is it?

I didn’t see the imports in QF after I had used the button mentioned above. I logged out and back in a couple of time but still nothing. But then…some time later…I saw SYNC message in the dashboard saying bank feeds were ready. So Q2 is how long is the delay and this should be added to the Help file.

Overall I am a tad confused about HOW to use the bank feeds process. Do I log into QF and then click the Bank Feed icon…which loads my bank into the page I was viewing QF, or do I open a new tab and do the same? Do I even need to login to the bank to get the bank feeds? It all feels a bit clumsy in other words. What are the step by step sequence of events? to simply suck in the bank data each month?

The long and short of this is that until the banks actually develop a 3rd party web service for other financial apps to connect into, bank feeds will always be inherently unreliable. For that reason I strongly urge anyone struggling with feeds to contact their bank and ask them to provide a trusted 3rd party web service. This isn’t a problem unique to QuickFile you will see similar discussion on all accounting software applications as any solution is really just a hack.

In regards to your other questions…

  1. Best if I explain with the aid of screenshots:

First go into the account detail screen, now click here:

and you will see an export to QuickFile option.

  1. The sync button can take 5 minutes to appear. I agree it should be documented somewhere, I will make a recommendation.

  2. Can you post a separate thread on this one please or send me a PM? It’s more coherent if there’s one subject discussed per thread.

  3. Bank feeds always need to be initiated from logging into your bank first, exporting to QF, then returning to your QF dashboard to sync the items to a bank account in QF, this part also lets you trim the feed, i.e. specify all transactions from date x to date y.

I will definitely recommend reading the full guide on feeds here.

Glen,

Many thanks…the penny is beginning to drop.

I have edited the original post to remove the PayPal reference and will create a separate post on that. So this post is all about one topic.
