Cannot Create New VAT Return

When I try to Create New VAT Return I get an error message: “HMRC returned server error, this usually occurs when server is down for maintenance.” Same message for two days. Cannot see any maintenance messages on HMRC site. Tried disconnecting from HMRC and reconnecting without success. I have already submitted 3 VAT returns in the past.

The MTD service is currently unavailable as HMRC are carrying out maintenance. There’s more information on this here: https://status.quickfile.co.uk/incident/102

HMRC made us aware of this maintenance last week. I’m unsure why this wouldn’t be showing on their own status page.

This is showing on the HMRC status page under “Planned Downtime”, although I agree it’s confusing as they also show that a full service is available.
