Creating separate users for client area

With a number of our clients we work for different departments within that company. We often send quotes and invoices to the project leads within those departments rather than the finance department of the overall company. If we create a client area for the company and create a quote for the next job for say the marketing department and send them a link to their client area that’s fine, but when we get another job for the same company but this time for the digital content department for example, they will also log into the same client area as marketing and be able to see the invoice for that department - probably fine but equally it might not be and I’d rather be able to have separate client areas for each department. What is the best way to do this because if I put the same company number that has been used before when creating a new client it wont create? So do I have to give each one a different company name eg. marketing at company x and digital content at company x or is there a better way of doing this?

Hi @willpost

There isn’t a way of restricting access to particular contacts on an account I’m afraid. But what you suggested is likely to be the best approach (separate client record for each department).

So I set up the two different departments with their own client record but when I went to impersonate client and clicked on accounts overview there is the option to switch account (so I could now switch between the accounts for the two different depts.). It says they are linked accounts. I guess this is because even though I have set different client names for them they both still have the same company number is it? Is there anything I can do about this because for these types of clients it renders the client area a bit useless for me and I will have to send as PDFs instead, which would be a great shame.

It will provide that option to switch in the client area if both clients are allocated the same email address. If you set differing email addresses that option won’t appear.

Excellent, that solved that. Thanks!
