I have entered an invoice in November 2021 in error and the customer has paid it in November. I have credited it and refunded back to the customer in January 2022 as the managing credit notes explained.
It shows on the vat for the vat qtr to December as a sale which I understand, however when I look at the vat qtr to Mar 22 it shows it as a sale and a credit. which means the sale is not cleared off.
How do I deal with this please
Hi @Mary123
Was the refund paid out to the client (rather than being held on account)?
The way QuickFile VAT returns work they will automatically include anything dated before the end of the quarter you’re looking at that has not already been locked down by the submission of a previous return. This is by design as it means that anything you enter late can be back-dated to show as the correct date in QuickFile and it’ll be accounted for in the first available future return, but it also means that if you try and view your Jan-Mar VAT return before you’ve submitted your Oct-Dec one then the Jan-Mar figures will include everything since the start of October.
Once your Oct-Dec return is submitted and that quarter is locked down, then you should see the correct figures on the Jan-Mar one.
Thank you very much that makes sense.
