De-register Vat

I’m in the process of de-registering for VAT. I have sent the form in to HMRC. They have a returned a letter stated I need to finish the process on line. I have tried this via this portal, by clicking the “I am de-registering for VAT, mark this return as FINAL” button. Thou not having much luck. The only way i think i can do it is by posting only two months of returns, which will be “nil”, how ever your system does. As unable to submit the Vat return before end of the Vat period.
Is there any thing that can be done.

You can use QuickFile to send a VAT return to HMRC and mark it as “Final” using the appropriate checkbox. However HMRC will expect a return to end on a specified date and if you try to file anything to them that deviates from this expected period end date they will reject the return.

Unfortunately when HMRC issue such a rejection they do not state the actual end date they were expecting. You can always contact HMRC to ask them for the date and then set this accordingly in QuickFile.
