Display item category in customer statement

Is there a way of displaying the item category from the invoice on the customer statement.

Just to confirm, do you mean the nominal code (like General Sales, etc.)?

I don’t believe so, I mean the Invoices Inventory Management page, the item name

These can’t be shown on the statement unfortunately, they’re only used on the invoices. You can however manually edit the name of invoices (the part that shows on a statement). Just click in the description box on invoice list, and edit it:

There is also a way of editing this on invoice creation. You need to enable it in Account Settings >> Advanced Features (“Name invoice on creation”), but this then gives you another box to edit when creating the invoice.
