Trying to do my first VAT return. How can I tell if it has or has not been submitted to HMRC?

There are a few things to look out for:

  1. The VAT return will show as “Submitted”
  2. You will see a HMRC ID at the top of the VAT return page
  3. If you log into your HMRC account, you can view your return there.

It’s worth noting that if you’ve linked your HMRC account correctly, you would only see an error if it’s failed. Otherwise, it was submitted successfully.
