How can I reinstate a rolled back VAT return?

Hi, I’ve managed to incorrectly ‘rollback’ a previously filed and paid VAT return. How do i now reinstate it as its now affecting my current VAT liability.

Many thanks.

Hello @Oligsp

The return is showing as “Filed” in your Reports > Vat Returns > Create screen and there is a HMRC ID on the rolled back return.

You can not re submit a filed return but you have to save a copy as to not impact the next return.

To do this

  • Go into Report > Vat Returns > Settings
  • Set the HMRC account to “No electronic filing” > Save
  • Go into Report > Vat Returns > Create >
  • Enter the period > If the figures are correct > Submit (this will save a copy of the return as a placeholder)
  • Go back into Report > Vat Returns > Settings
  • Set the HMRC account back to your company > Save

Where “correct” means “exactly match the values you previously submitted”, even if those later proved to be incorrect and you had to add extra backdated entries. If this is the case you’ll need to adjust the saved return to match the submitted one, then apply the reverse adjustments on your next return to bring things back into balance.

Brilliant. Thank you.
