How to deal with VAT for Non UK companies with GB VAT number

I pay for a few software services (file sharing, antivirus, web hosting etc) with companies based in Ireland (and a few other countries I think) but some of them send me VAT invoices with their VAT numbers starting GB not IE.

Does this mean that I can claim the VAT back as though they were in the UK? Or will I have to pay UK VAT on top of the VAT already included in the total by tagging with a VAT rate of 0%?

Thanks.

They might have a company registered in the UK for vat purposes, check with companies house or even better confirm with them and if it is UK entity then treat as normal UK company supplier
