HSBC feed not working - Extra spaces in account number

This problem has re-appeared, after ‘Export to Quickfile’ feed don’t show in Quickfile. Perhaps HSBC have changed something?

Just run a quick test on our side and it appeared to work fine. I can also see 12 HSBC feeds that went through OK yesterday, so it doesn’t look like they’ve changed anything.

I can also see your feeds hitting the system but the file contains no transactions. The plugin will appear to export even when there’s no items. Instead of hitting export to Quick File try just downloading instead, it could be that there are no new items to download in that particular view.

Obviously I only hit ‘Export…’ when there are transactions. We have an average of 5 or more everyday. In particular, there are 19 transactions between 14/06/2014 and today that have not been exported. When the system is working fine there is a noticeable lapse - some 4 seconds or so - between hitting Export and the message “Export Completed”. But now the message is appearing instantly. This happened before (see my previous post) and fixed itself after a week or so, no action from our side.

Without being able to replicate I can’t really say what the issue is here? Bank feeds are very hard to debug as you can’t log in as the end user to reproduce the steps so we’re basically left with trial and error.

It would be expected that there are a few seconds delay when there are transactions being pushed over to our servers. The fact that now it’s almost instant indicates that the feed is empty. Why this is happening I can’t say??

Can I just ask, are you exporting from the Recent Transactions page or from historic statements? and can you confirm that you are able to download the transactions for the period you’re after in Quicken format from HSBC?

@rudolph Would you mind retrying now, the outcome will be the same but I have setup an extra trace to capture the raw file content that is being sent over, perhpas this will give me a clue as to what’s happening.

Hi Glen. I have retried some five minutes ago, still no luck, nothing shown in QuickFile. To your questions:

  • I export daily from Recent Transactions. Working fine until last Friday.
  • Yes, I am able to download the transactions in both CSV and QIF formats.

OK I think we’re getting somewhere now as I can see a few transactions coming through but they’re not getting processed. That’s 90% of the problem solved, all we need to do now is figure out why they aren’t getting processed.

If you leave this with me we’ll get this looked at tomorrow morning and update you.

EDIT:

Still looking into this, will try to get an update over to you later today.

I can successfully download my statements and recent transactions as a .csv and then import to QuickFile but I would like to use the direct ‘Export to Quickfile’ button. When I click it I am asked if I’m sure I want to export to QuickFile and when I click yes it says it has been successful and I need to login to QuickFile to view the transactions. But, when I do login to Quickfile, it is not evident that my statement has been imported - there is no information regardinf possible conflicts, as there is when importing .csv files.

Am I doing something wrong, or neglecting to do something I should be doing?

Thanks

@tlc_78 I’ve lumped your post in here as it is related to the same problem @rudolph reported.

In your feed settings where you’ve entered the account number you have a space included at the end.

This was causing the receiving server to save the account number in an unexpected location.

What we’ve done now is improve the code to trim off these spaces… If you retry I expect it will work fine!

Brilliant, thank you. I had copied and pasted the account number from QuickFile and hadn’t realised there was a space on the end. It is working now :o)

Well done Glen, QuickFile customer service second to none, as usual.

Why this problem suddenly started this week if we didn’t do any change? Well, not so. As part of our security routines, last weekend I cleared up all cookies from our computers and then re-entered the QuickFile app details. Lesson learned: Don’t copy-paste. Enter the numbers one by one by hand and make sure that there are no spaces before or after!

Or copy paste and make sure there are no spaces or tabs before or after. I like copy paste!
