Apologies if this has been asked before but am I right in thinking that it is not possible to import a chart of accounts?
While, naturally, I have use of some of the nominal ledger account (telephone etc) I have about 70+ NA’s that it would be much easier to create by importing via CSV.
Can some one con firm that is the case?
Thx.

Hello @3Unique
Its not something that is possible at present.
You could raise a feature request for this on the forum, that way other users can vote and we can monitor its popularity.
Thx Steve
Its a one off thing for me and would be needed within three months!
However, I have figured out a work around:
- Create Chart of Accounts in Excel (CSV).
- This CofA would include accounts where the opening balance is 0
- Those accounts that have a closing balance such as fixed assets, bank etc leave with their correct closing balance
- Give a value of one to any accounts that have a zero balance, debit or credit it doesn’t matter.
- The trial balance must balance or (obviously) the import will fail. To ensure the import doesn’t fail enter a balancing figure in 2997 Balance Sheet suspense.
- Use the Trial Balance import routine in Quickfile to import the Trial Balance you have created.
- When the routine is finished you are presented with the Opening Balance journal. Delete all the entries that have a value of one (see above) and the entry into 2997 Balance Sheet Suspense.
- The opening balances journal should now balance and you can save it.
- You now have you opening balances as at the beginning of the year and your complete chart of accounts.
Perhaps not ideal but reasonably elegant I think.
The import routine is brilliant BTW though one small criticism is that you cannot see which field has focus (or on my machine you can’t). Which would be helpful.
