Jointly owned property - 50:50 split

Just setting up QF for the first time. Our property submissions are an easy 50:50 split between 2 people. Am I correct that I use QF to log 100% of the income/expenditure and the 50:50 split and tax submission will be apportioned by HMRC as part of a Self Assessment submission?

Hello @PeteLeg

You each need to do your own tax return as it is now.

So it’s the same with MTD ITSA, you both each need to file your own cumulative updates and file your own final declarations.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
So my entries to my QF account should be 50% of any actual receipt or payment?
I have linked the bank account so I can see the transactions. I guess thay will need an apportionment each time? And my wife should set up her own QF account and do the same?

Hello @PeteLeg

As it stands, yes that would be the process.

Depending on the testing other tools may be introduced before the full April 2026 rollout such as

  • A percentage based apportioning tool within the cumulative update report
  • An option to share an update with another authorised QuickFile account to simplify this process.

Hi Steve

QuickFile won’t work for us as it stands.

We would look for a single package that allows us to submit individual, apportioned figures while only entering gross figures once.

I will cancel the bank link and watch and wait.

Hi Steve

We are not required to submit using MTD at this time. Can I request that you delete my account and all associated data, please?

Pete Leggett

Hello Pete

Thanks for getting in touch, you can delete your account from the account settings area once logged in. Please look for the “Clear all data in your account” option.

We’ve got some more detailed instructions here:
