New user struggling to import data onto VAT return

I am new to Quickbooks and previously used a paper system as a sole trader. I have listed my invoices and payments on the spreadsheets but the figures are not importing onto the VAT return. I have connected well with HMRC and my returns are showing. what do I need to do to make the figures move across?

Hello Kay

I have had a look at your account and when you run the VAT Return you were getting this message

As such I have amended your VAT Filing Start date (Reports > VAT Returns > Settings) to 01/05/2022 to fall in line with your returns.

The sales and purchases you have entered into QuickFile now show on your return.

Thats brilliant!!! Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. What a relief.

Hi, the invoice total is showing, and hence the VAT received, but the VAT to be reclaimed isnt - so none of the VAT to be claimed back from the purchases is showing on the VAT return?

Hello Kay

I looked at a few of them (not all), the common thread is that all the invoices are dated in the vat period but the payments are not (August).

As you are on Cash accounting the vat return looks at the payment dates to see which return the purchases belong to.

Hope that makes sense.

I started with Quickbook in August and completed the spreadsheets. I dated the purchases 30th July to bring them into the VAT period - but had to create them in August as that was when I began. Can I remedy this?

Hello Kay

You can go into your bank screen and click on the dates to amend them.

Note you will only be able to do this if the payment has not been included in a submitted return.
