Overdue VAT returns

I have 2 vat returns overdue from 2021, is there any way that I can still do them through quickfile as although I have changed vat date to 2021 the returns don’t appear on the HMRC file list?

Regards
John

Hello John

We will only display the open periods provided to us by HMRC via your VAT tax account you have linked.

The vat returns page will only show the last 5 returns, for older periods you can

  • Go to Reports > HMRC > View > Vat Obligations
  • Use the Next/Previous Year tabs to navigate
  • If the older periods are there and “Open” you can submit them (using the below method)

Vat returns have to be submitted in chronological order.

You would have to roll back each return in sequence up to the missing period.

Once the later returns are rolled back you can then generate the missing period.

As you can not submit a period twice, the periods already submitted will need to be generated and saved in sequence.

To do this

  1. Go to Reports > Vat Returns > Settings.
  2. Select no electronic filing in the HMRC account box.
  3. Run each period for the relevant date range and save each return ensuring the figures are correct.
  4. Once all the periods are saved reverse step 2 to relink your HMRC account.
