Pasting PayPal entries (descriptions), text currently concatinates

Hello,

This is a small usability issue but it’s not a system bug or anything to do with QuickFile. Nonetheless, I’m sure there’s a few other users that get this though and it would be great if something could be done to work with this - please see below:

I add my PayPal entries manually. To do this, I copy and paste the PayPal entry into QuickFile.

When you copy a PayPal entry description into QuickFile’s reference field, a gap appears in the middle of the entry (I think it must be in a table in PayPal, and you’re actually copying and pasting 2 cells, hence the gap).

An entry will look like this: Payment from Joe Blogs Ltd

When this is published, the gap is removed, and you get this: Payment fromJoe Blogs Ltd

It makes sense if PayPal is using table cells, since there will be no spacing to the left of each item.

I don’t know if this could be done, but if the system could somehow detect or trap this ‘gap’ before it’s published and add a 1 char space, so we don’t get that concatenated text when we publish the entry, that would be marvellous.

Many thanks
Jose

It may be interpreting that character as a tab space? Have you tried copying from your spreadsheet to Notepad to see the raw text?

If it’s a CSV you could actually just open it directly in Notepad and copy from there, that may solve the issue?

Hi Glen,

Thank you. You’re right, it looks like a tab space.

I copy and paste from PayPal to QuickFile because I can tick the tickbox for that entry in PayPal and keep track of where I am (handy if there’s a lot of entries) but yes, I just tried copy/pasting into a notepad and then on to QuickBook and the extra formatting is removed and it works fine in QuickFile.

I’ll have to do it that way.

Many thanks for your input - much appreciated!

Regards
Jose
