I think this has just changed in the last hour or so, but the Payment Method field has gone missing when logging a payment on a Purchase or Invoice where I have highlighted in the image.
It appears that the field still exists in the background as when you go to the attributed payment, as you are not able to select a method it just says “Some other” but you can change it to all the usual method types.
Please can this be put back to how it was so we can select the Payment Method for both Invoices and Purchases.
This morning I was allocating payments and the boxes that ask you to select what type of payment (bacs, card, cash etc) have all disappeared. Its on both paying supplier invoices and allocating client invoices.
Hello @charlotte
The box you mention is being removed as it is just an extra step in the process and serves no purpose.

Payment types will now be inferred from the account to which a payment is allocated.
Hi @QFSteve ,
I am not sure I would say it serves no purpose. How else are we supposed to identify how a payment was made without the payment method?

I have noticed that the payment method has returned

Hello @Sachin
We are doing some work at present to resolve an issue this morning (Emailing invoices) but th payment type box will be removed soon.
I am not sure I understand that is meant by
E.g. cash payment would be payments made using petty cash, bank transfer would be current account
Hi @QFSteve
That doesn’t take into account payment method used that might not be the default.
For example, how would a Cheque, Direct Debit, Debit Card, Standing Order, BACs payment be differentiated for a Current Account money out record?
I also vote to keep it as it is with payment methods being a choice to select, they do show when you look back at payments, the type of payment and this is helpful when trying to track down a historic transaction. It lets you know whether to search in bank statements, credit card payments etc.
I totally agree. But it seems like it is happening whether we like it or not!
Up until yesterday the “Update as Paid” function was working differently than now.
If I send someone an invoice, then they make a payment into my bank, I go to the Dashboard-Invoice Management screen and select the appropriate invoice on the list by putting a tick in the box and click the icon “Update as Paid”, I then had a pop-up box with a long list of options and I always selected the “Bank Transfer” option as the method of payment. Now when I click “Update as Paid” I get a box with just 5 options such as Current Account, Petty Cash, Credit Card etc. Has something changed, am I now doing something wrong?
Hello @19JD60
I have merged your query with this topic

In whose opinion is this an extra step? Has anyone asked to have this removed in the first place? It’s been there since day one. Who says it serves no purpose when people have expressed why they want it to stay and to use it?
They’ve removed the payment type box it would seem.
The statement to look at would be determined by the account it was paid from in the banking screen e.g. bank account, credit card account, petty cash account or a particular merchant account.
Personally I just have the one current account, card payments are taken via paypal which go direct to the current account so everything is done from the one account.
Hi Steve,
I beg to differ.
It is an integral part of my payment reconciliation process and whilst I agree it is overly split. Without this, I have great difficulty defining where my income is coming from and how I can allocate it.
I agree!! I am so surprised that they have removed this option. It will mess up how I do my accounts
hi steve when is this whole thing of payments going to be put back im a very high user and now because you guys have removed cash payments also the card sections ie visa debit its causing my accounts department a lot of stress at this rait i will be changing account software
