Paypal feed refund (debit) is different name than payment (credit)

hi, this is a strange situation that has to be sorted out manually (need to find both transactions myself and check the name). Quickfile is somehow taking the name of customer when the payment is received but when I want to refund - typing the same name doesnt show any results.
PAYMENT:

REFUND:

There is no way to find BOND-IT when making refund so I have to go directly to paypal, find BOTH transactions, copy the transaction ID from the payment, go to quickfile, paste the payment transaction and find the name it was saved under by quickfile… Cant it be simpler?

Find the transaction in paypal and see what name it comes under. Check the client account on QF and see if another name is entered.

Sometimes you’ll get a payment from JOE BLOGGS, but if you open up the JOE BLOGGS transaction on paypal you might see the bloke is called John Smith.

By entering John Smith, QF will find the client and you can then tag the refund.

It’s happened to me a couple of times.

Ignore what I just said, you already did all that!

The name of the client as per the first screen shot is “Michael Foley”, but in your second screenshot you’re typing “Bond”. Try typing Michael Foley into the box when searching for the client to refund.

Hi, Im typing BOND-IT as thats how it appears in credits. When trying to tag refund there is no way for me to know that suddenly BOND-IT became Michael Foley… Thats why I need to go back, find the credit transaction and figure out the name quickfile decided to apply to that transaction.

I got payment from BOND-IT, refund is to BOND-IT, so why on earth when trying to type BOND-IT its not comping up with anyhing?

Because BOND-IT is the client name that PayPal return when we call the transaction search API, i.e. to import the daily entries.

If you have auto tagging turned on then we perform a second detail search on each transactions after importing the entries and PayPal return the name of the contact, if we need to dynamically create a client we’ll use the name returned from the second detailed search, which in this case was Michael Foley.

So basically PayPal return two different names from two different types of API search. We just translate that into the account.

When tagging a refund QF needs to locate the name of the client as it’s saved on the software rather than the reference appearing on the bank. You can identify this by viewing the details for the original sale and using that client name.
