Just a thought…I have been using QF for my sole trader business for just under two years now. I am familiar with, and occasionally refer to, the recent events log (under the dashboard area). I note a user can delete individual events/line items. I don’t believe I have done that much above a couple of times since coming to QF.
Will my events log stretch right back to day 1? There must be a good few thousand lines…taking up server space?? Is there any centralised house-keeping in this regard whereby this info is periodically deleted or does it all have to be ‘saved’ for potential audit purposes etc?
Right now we retain all event logs from day 1, so there’s no cleanup process going on our side.
One thing we have discussed is archiving the event log to a CSV file after a period of say 3 years. We haven’t implemented anything like this yet, but it may happen in the future. I’d imagine it’s very rare you’d need to consult event logs beyond 3 years.
Regarding manual deletion of event log entries, this is something only admin users can do.
Although the average user would probably never really need to see much past the recent history it would probably be handy to keep a log going back in line with what you are required to keep for HMRC etc for those surprise audits and questions of “who did this thing 5 years ago”. Could this be added to account backups maybe?
It could possibly go into the backups, we’d just need to see how this would affect the file size and how quick the query runs to extract the data.
