Refund into current account - chart of nominal accounts

I cannot input a negative number in Quickfile when uploading a “total gross amount” from a csv file. I am looking to book a line which is a refund or credit back to the current account. Any suggestions on how to do this? Obviously I will need to put a positive number in and was wondering if there is a code in the chart of nominal accounts for a refund?

Many thanks.

Hi @TildArt

What’s the origin of the refund? Do you have a matching invoice that the refund was against?

A few refunds…return of deposit for rent, returned something to Ikea (refund for furniture purchase), Transport for London travel rebate…all need to be credited to the current account. I was going to set it against rent, furniture/fixings, transport.

Thanks.

In the case of the Ikea receipt, where you have an invoice on QuickFile for this, the correct way to do it would be to go to the originally invoice and create a credit note (More Options >> Credit Note). When you save this, it will prompt you to allocate the funds to the supplier account or to a bank account, and will create a new transaction for this. If it’s duplicated, you can safely delete the untagged invoice.

For items where you don’t have a receipt, the best way would be to create a negative invoice. To do this, create a purchase invoice as normal, but enter a negative value. This will then prompt you for the bank account to log the payment - same as the method above.

I hope that makes sense, but please let me know if you need further help

Will try that - many thanks!
