Reminder email to renew HMRC connection for VAT

Hi, Sorry to bother you, I have received the automatic reminder to renew the HMRC connection and when I click on it it takes me to the Government website asking for Gateway and ID. I am not sure what these are and I don’t recall going through this process initially, can you advise please as I will need to pay the VAT by 7th February. Thanks Ann

Hello @anns

The way QuickFile is able to submit your MTD returns is.

  • It uses the HMRC account you have connected to log in and pull the dates of the open returns.
  • You then view the period and submit the return on that account.

The authorisation to allow QuickFile to connect to your HMRC account does run out over time and does require renewing.

If you are not sure what your HMRC details are your would need to contact HMRC directly. The do have a section on their website to help you recover your information, you can find this at the link below

Hi Steve,

Thanks for this, I can’t recall having to do this when we joined Quickfile initially so cannot recall how this was set up. I’ll probably need request a new gateway number etc. only problem is that the VAT is due on the 7th February and there may not be enough time as they only send things out via mail!

Thanks again

Take Care

Ann

Hello Ann

Unfortunately we have no control over this. If we can not log into the gateway with the details you have provided you can not submit the return.

It may be worth reaching out to HMRC to see if the deadline can be extended.

Hi Steve,

I’ll just need to make sure that I submit the return by the 1st February. Just checking however that onceI have submitted this return and then the connection runs out before I get a chance to sort it will that cause future problems.
