Repeating Journals are duplicating first journal

Hi,

I made a post about how to count repeating journals at this link:
How to count repeating journals

Recently I needed to create a journal that would post 5 times only.

I created the journal as below:

I created this journal a few weeks beforehand.

I wanted it to post exactly 5 times, the first post being on 28.07.26 and the last post, 5 months later on 28.11.26.

I saved that journal and then I set up a recurring schedule:

I set the start date as the date that I wanted the journal to post for the first time which was 28.07.26. I set the Frequency to every month and I set the Occurrences to 5.

I put a note in my calendar to check the postings and I found that the journal made a duplicate entry on 28.07.26.

I read the knowledgebase guide on Journals at THIS link.

I can’t see where I am going wrong.

The software doesn’t show the button to set up a recurring schedule until after you have saved the journal you want repeating.

And if I set up a recurring schedule after I have saved the original entry, what happens if I go in and delete the original journal?

Or am I counting wrong as per my first query on this?

Should the journal repeat say, in this example, 4 times and begin on 28th August to give 5 posts in total?

It would be very helpful if the knowledgebase article could be maybe updated to show the step by step of how to avoid this duplication, with screenshots.

Any help appreciated.

Hello @Darren_Smith

I recently made a video on this, I have just published it.

There’s is a good example of a recurring journal which may help

Hi,

That helped clarify the situation on how to count the repeats (recurrences).

In future, say I had this journal schedule:

I could prepare the journal today (4th Aug).

I would create the journal and date it 15th August.
Then save the journal to get to the “Set up a Recurring Schedule” button.

In the dialogue box, I would then put the date of the first repeat, that being 15th September and the number of occurences to 3.

This will give:

“Behind the scenes”

The journal that I created today (4th Aug) will execute on 15th August.

The repeating schedule will execute 3 more times, 15th Sept, 15th Oct. and 15th Nov.

Total posts = 4, Total repeats = 3

This is how I will do them in future !!

Hello @Darren_Smith

I’m glad the video helped :+1: .

I am trying to get as many done as I can but they are taking a while to get out as we are receiving lots of MTDITSA queries

Keep an eye out for more
