Restore Tag from bank Backup

I accidentally deleted a bank transaction and my bank obviously no longer reconciles, I can find the transaction in my backup and it shows as tagged, I’ve now recreated the transaction in my bank account, now, how do I find out (from the back up) what it was tagged as? Thanks

There is not an easy way to find this unless you can narrow it down based on the description of the transaction.

Depending on if it is a Money In or Money Out transaction you will see the below when you click Tag Me

If the transaction Description refers to a customer/suppler you would choose those options respectively.

If not and it was tagged to a nominal (something else not in this list) then one of your nominal balances will be out by the same value and you can re tag it to that nominal code.

That’s going to be a nightmare to find! surely there’s a better way? Can I suggest you include the tag in the back up going forward?

It was a few months ago unfortunately, I only noticed when a quarterly statement came through and the bank did not reconcile

Is it possible to get he tag included in the back up? Can’t be the first time this has happened

“The tag” hides a lot of complexity - it might be

• a transfer to or from another account, in the same or some other currency
• a payment from a customer or to a supplier, which may be allocated to zero, one, or more than one invoice/purchase that may or may not add up to the total value of the payment and may or may not be in the same currency
  • it is possible for two transactions to be allocated to the same “payment” if one of them is a full or partial “refund balance” of the other
• a “tax payment/refund” or a “something not on the list” to a single nominal code
• a line out of a journal

It would be tricky to distill all this down to one CSV column in any meaningful way.

Could you not just put the textual comment you see when you hover over the tag? at least then you could start the journey
