Submit vat return earlier than 1st submission

I have submitted my first VAT return ( April - End June) through to HMRC. All is fine and linked ok. However I requested with HMRC to move my VAT start date 1 month earlier to 1st March. 3 months later HMRC have just confirmed this change and I need to submit a VAT return for 1 - 31st March through MTD. I have tried to change the start date for VAT in order to capture this information and submit but the system will not allow me to do this. Please can you advise how I should proceed. Many thanks.

Hi @robo14167

The only way to submit this through MTD would be to roll back the existing return, run the missing one, and re-run the rolled back one (as a new return completely).

The only issue that may arise is if previous invoices have been pulled into the submitted return.

Have you set a VAT start date in your settings, and if so, what is it?

Hi Mathew,

The start date currently is 1st April. However this will now need to be 1st March to cover the 1st Month (1 -31st March) and then carry on with 1st April to end June as normal. This would be in line with what HMRC have requested when checking my gateway account.
April - June was all correct on the original submission and so nothing should change once I re submit to HMRC.

On the roll back, for 1st April to end June, do I re submit as normal to HMRC after I have actioned the March entry?

When you re-save the April-June return then all you need to do is save this on QuickFile as HMRC have already received. You will untick the MTD/online filing box to re-save this period, and then you can re-tick the box once you have done.

hope this makes sense

Hi Beth,

Many thanks. I thought that was the case from reading other posts this morning. I will action later and advise if I have any further issues on this.
