Tax going digital can't submit VAT return

I have changed to Tax Going Digital and I can’t submit my latest VAT return - it has now been more than 24 hours and it’s past the VAT return deadline of 7th, so I’m now in a penalty period.

This is the message I get " You are not yet authorised to view this report for the VRN 989187345 . Please ensure your VAT number is correct and you have connected the corresponding HMRC Tax Account. If you have recently enrolled on the MTD scheme please allow 24 hours for HMRC systems to update."

I don’t know what to do, as I’m now registered, I linked everything up, but don’t know what to do now, please help.

This message is sent to us by HMRC and usually means one of the following:

  • You have registered for MTD but not received the confirmation email
  • You’ve received the email, but it’s been less than 48-72 hours since you received it
  • You don’t have VAT access on the connected HMRC account for that VRN
  • Your VAT number has been entered incorrectly on QuickFile

Some users have multiple HMRC accounts for various services, so it may be worth disconnecting and reconnecting your HMRC account too.
