im trying to tag Money Out from Stripe feed.
i try to tag this as a Transfer between accounts, then pick the account which its already arrived in and has a transaction, but when i click ok it puts in an extra transaction into the transferred in bank?
this then ends up with 2x of the same transaction in the receiving bank, one of which is tagged?
i also tried something similar with a bank transfer i did from one account to another. the amount showed in both banks.
when i tried to tag them, all it did was create an extra transaction leaving me with two of the same.
one then needed to be deleted which doesnt make sense to me?
what am i doing wrong in tagging transfers between accounts?
You only need to tag a transfer from one end - QuickFile creates the matching transaction pre-tagged on the other account automatically. In the case of stripe specifically you probably want to configure the feed to “ignore payout transactions” so it doesn’t create the money out entries, leaving them to be tagged from the current account end.
If the transactions are the same value and on the same date, it will prompt you to use the existing entry.
But with things like payouts, it’s often the case that the date the funds are sent, isn’t the same as the date it’s received, which causes the dates to be different. In this case, tagging the one side as a transfer will create a duplicate, tagged, transaction.
If the dates on the two sides don’t match then the transactions can’t be paired up automatically as that would leave the books unbalanced between the date the money left one account and the date it arrived in the other. You will either have to tag it as a transfer, let QuickFile create the other side transaction with a matching date, and then delete the (differently-dated) untagged duplicate, or introduce another bridging bank account to record “funds in transit” and tag the feed transactions from both ends as transfers to/from that transit account - so your books show the money moving from the stripe account to the transit account on the day stripe think they sent it and from the transit account to your current account on the date your bank thinks it arrived.
