I need to run a VAT return with MTD turned off. Can someone advise how to turn MTD off temporarily. I can see how to disconnect it but I’m not sure whether this is the same as turning it off temporarily.
Thanks Stephen
Hello @Jacky
You can, but you don’t have to disconnect the HMRC account.
Just tell QuickFile you are not using it (temporarily) in Reports > Vat Returns > Settings
Thanks Steve
I didn’t twig that about the down arrow in the VAT settings would refer to not submitting electronically. To remove the duplicates in the current VAT return, I assume I now have to delete and re-enter the entries in the rolled back return so they become flagged and then will not appear in the subsequent VAT return. Then I would switch back on electronic filing. Have I got it right?!
Thanks again for your help.
Stephen (for Jacky)
Hello Stephen
Make whatever changes you need to the transactions they are unreconciled, once done re run the vat return for the period.
It will show as “Saved” and they will be re flagged as reconciled meaning the will not show in future returns.
You then turn electronic filing back on by relinking/re selecting your tax account in the drop down box
Hi Steve - Hopefully the last question. Is is sufficient to make a small change to the detail of the transaction, such as add a letter or punctuation mark, and save it to trigger the the flag or is it necessary to delete and re-enter which would be a pain! Stephen
Ok Got it. Re running the VAT return for the old period while unconnected to HMRC is enough to set the flags. No need to alter any transactions that don’t need to be altered. I think I got that right now. The current return looks right. Thanks again Stephjen
Simply saving a new return for the previous period will lock the items again, the only thing you need to be aware of is if in the time since you submitted the original return, you have added any additional back-dated entries that fall within the return period. In this case these back-dated entries would be included in the new saved return but not in the original submitted one, so you would need to manually adjust the return to change the numbers back to what you originally submitted, then apply the reverse adjustment to your next return to bring everything back into line.
Thanks Ian for the advice and help. The QF support has been great. Stephen
