Not experienced this before - have created recurring journals in past (ie a copy of monthly payroll journal which I amend and save) but latest one created is created as a reversing journal
How can I set things to just create a copy of a previous one to act as a “template”

Auto-reversing is something we’ve introduced recently. The journal will only create a reversed entry for you if you enter a date in this box:
Leaving this blank will create just the original journal.
