Updating a rolled back VAT return but not submitting to HMRC

Hi

I had submitted my VAT using MTD to HMRC return for Q1 - Apr-Jun period with correct expenses but incorrect sales figures causing VAT calculations to be wrong.
I then rolledback the return on QF and on the HMRC portal I submitted the correction form.

Now in for Q2 I need to submit new VAT return with the combined sales figures for Apr-Jun & Jul to Sep but I want to exclude the correct expenses figures from Q1? How do I go about doing it?

At the moment when I click on Create VAT return on QF its showing my Apr-Jun return only.

Please suggest.

When you resubmitted your return again you did this outside of QuickFile?

You will need to save a return for the period you’ve already submitted or it will all be pulled through into the next one. You should be able to make some manual adjustments if needed before submitting your next return.

I would suggest consulting with an accountant to make sure that you have included everything you need to with your return

Hi Beth

I have not re-submitted the return via QF.
As the return on QF was rolled back I didnt touch QF. I filled up a paper form on HMRC website to correct HMRC return but they said you can adjust figures in next return.

Ok I will SAVE the QF return for Apr to Jun and then resubmit new return for Jul to Sep with new figures.

Hi @sbildikar,

To save without submitting you will just need to remove your MTD settings while you do it

Hi Beth

Ok I have managed to save the return for Apr to Jun and that got saved.
But how do I update the sales figures in Jul to Sep and send it to HMRC?

Hi @sbildikar,

When you create the return you can add adjustments if you need to?

@QFBeth when i click on the little red triangle it shows me the adjustment box but it says below

"notes
Adjustment narrative and amounts are not sent to HMRC electronically. "

How do I adjust the figures?

Hi @sbildikar,

Yes, HMRC only receive the total figure for each box, they don’t see the breakdown/notes. So if you add adjustments/notes this breakdown will only be visible to you when you look at the return so that you know what was pulled through and what the adjustments were for.

I hope this makes sense?

Hi Beth

No sorry i dont get it.

  1. I submitted Q1 return to HMRC via QF MTD where I missed some sales amounts in box 6
  2. HMRC received the Q1 return
  3. I rolledback the Q1 return in QF and raised a separate form with HMRC to which HMRC said adjust the next return (Q2).
  4. I recalculated and SAVED the incorrect Q1 return in point 1 above only in QF and as its rolledback it didnt go to HMRC
  5. Now I believe i want to submit Q2 return with the sales figures from Q1 + Q2 but when i do create return for Q2 its only showing sales figures for Q2? Should I be changing some dates in the sales invoices or something?

Thoughts please.
Much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @sbildikar,

If you need to include the Q1 and Q2 data in the return then you didn’t need to save the Q1 in QuickFile. Saving it meant that it didn’t pull through the figures.

If you just need to make an adjustment to the Q2 return then run the Q2 return as normal and then just add the adjustments that are required, HMRC won’t know what the original/adjustments are they will just receive one figure for each box which is the total (original +/- adjustment).
