VAT and agent authorisation

Hi,

Will QF allow me to submit a VAT return on behalf of a company that I don’t have on my HMRC agent list, or will it come back with a block error of

Vat return submission to HMRC failed.
By Gateway : Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service

I’ve double checked the password etc so wanted to check whether this was likely to be the reason or whether it was something I could mend and still submit this return.

Are you able to use those credentials to log into the HMRC online account directly? I know HMRC allow agent account credentials to be used for submitting on behalf of a client, but only if that client has authorised you as an agent and is enrolled for electronic VAT returns.

That error can also appear if the VAT number is incorrect, but logging in directly will usually rule that out.

Ok, that confirms my theory then. It’s because the client still hasn’t returned the authorisation request. Clients!!
