VAT Return calculations do not agree to numbers in box 1 and 6

Hi
I’ve downloaded the calculations for a VAT return and the total for box 1 and 6 does not agree to the summary figures for these boxes. It is only £4 out but I can’t see why this would have occurred. (It is a simple VAT return (just standard rated sales and UK purchases). Are you able to help with this?

Which way out? Have you sold anything zero rated or exempt? Do you have invoices with lots of small value lines rather than a few big ones? VAT is (I believe) calculated at the line level rounded up rather than as a percentage of the invoice total so rounding differences can creep in if you have many small lines - just a penny here or there but it adds up to a few quid over several hundred lines.

Hi, The detail is £4.33 higher than the box 1 summary. Nothing is zero rated or exempt. None of the invoices are small (only 32 sales invoices totalling just over £30k net of sales.) It is such a simple VAT return - I can’t understand why I have this difference.

@Letitia - I’ll send you a private message now and see if we can shed any light on this for you. Please look for the green notification in the top right hand corner.

Oh, I see what you meant now - the summary section at the top doesn’t agree with the sum of the detail column? I thought you were saying box 1 was more than 20% of box 6, hence my comment on rounding errors.
