VAT Return including EU invoices

I have an issue with my VAT returns for Apr2020 - Mar2021
My accountant says I have overpaid VAT by a large amount
Can anyone tell me what may have gone wrong…?

You’d need to give a bit more information before anyone could help.

Dear Paul

Thank you for responding…

My accountant informs me that the first 3 VAT returns for the accounting period APR2020 – MAR2021 are incorrect.

He is saying that I have overpaid VAT particularly relating to the periods ……APR2020-JUN2020…JUL2020-SEP2020…OCT2020-DEC2020

I have been attempting to discover where the problem lies…but as yet without success.

One possibility is as follows:…

  1. My main suppliers are both EU based and all of their invoices show net of VAT
  2. During this period…when entering their invoices…. VAT defaults to 20% but then subtracted it before the final total.
  3. He is saying that somehow, I have been treating Supplier invoices like Clients…but I cannot see how Quickfile would allow me to do this…

What I really need is a Quickfile expert to look in detail at this period to see where the error has occurred…is this possible…?

Maybe an admin can take a look for you on Monday. But as for contributors like me, I’d be unable to say what the problem is from the information you’ve provided.

It sounds like you need to track the reason down instead of knowing why and wanting help to reverse it.

I wouldn’t know the why, only how to fix the why.

But maybe an admin can take a look at your account if you provide them with an example of the vat you paid thaf shouldn’t have been, along with the invoice that vat relates to.

You can export the vat returns and check exactly what was included to make up the vat paid, that should help you locate the invoices that are incorrectly charging vat.

Thanks Paul…that sound like good advice but…
How do I make contact with an admin person…?

Hi,
They will check the forum here when they are back on Monday from 9am ish.

Hi @AHUK

We can help with general queries, but we wouldn’t be able to advise on whether you’ve paid the right amount of VAT or not. But happy to take a look and see what’s going on for you.

I’ll drop you a private message shortly - please look for a green notification in the top right corner.
