When generating the my first VAT return, it is not picking up any of the slaes and purchases, all of the dates for issue and payment are within the date range. Any ideas?
hi @stevet64,
Have you checked your VAT settings are all correct, whether you are Cash or Accrual accounting and also the start date for your VAT?
Hi Beth,
Cash accounting checked, start date as 01/04/19 and periods all correct
Thanks
Hi @stevet64,
It is worth looking at your invoices, and then clicking to view the payments associated with those invoices.
If you have a 3 month VAT period then your return will include all payments with the dates between 01.04.19 - 30.06.19.
You may find that even though the invoices are within this date range and are marked as paid that the payments are dated after the period
Hi Beth,
The payment dates are outside the date range. How do I change the payment date please?
Thanks
You don’t. If you are on cash accounting the VAT return is calculated using payment dates within the period.
If this is your very first VAT return on Quickfile following registration, you may need to go in to your settings and change the frequency to annual to get your earlier dates included, prep and file your return up to the relevant Qtr date, then go back and change to Quarterly.
Do check that your earlier transactions are properly allocated to the correct VAT code (eg, if it is a service in the 6 months prior or a relevant purchase in the 3 years prior, to your registration date, then ensure that it is set to have the VAT set at the relevant rate, and that all others are set ‘outside the scope of VAT’).
Don’t forget to change back to quarterly after you file.
(Disclaimer - this is what I did earlier this year on a different accounting platform for my day-job accounts, but I would assume the same would apply in QF to allow you to submit your first return with earlier transactions than your VAT start date per the rules).
