VAT rollback "Cancel" button did not cancel

Hi,

Just earlier I clicked the option to rollback my last VAT return. The warning box popped up and I swear I clicked “Cancel”, but then the return was rolled back anyway - confirmed by a box at the top of the screen.

The return is indeed now rolled back.

I can’t easily re-test at the moment, but I thought I would let you know in case you can recreate at your end. Or perhaps it was a PICNIC issue at my end…

Thanks,

Rich.

I’ve passed on the details to a developer, I’m sure they will be able to reinstate the return for you. We will also look at the behaviour of that pop-up box to see if there’s an issue there.

EDIT:

We did indeed find a problem with the confirmation pop-up. I apologise and can confirm that this has now been rectified.

Hi Glenn,

No problem at all - thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Don’t worry about reinstating the return, I did need to make some changes in the end so I have done that and saved it with the corrections.

I actually found some other unexpected behaviour when “submitting” the corrected return in QuickFile (choosing not to resubmit to HMRC as I’m including the corrections in my latest return). What I found was:

  1. After rolling back the return, I corrected the erroneous invoices in that period.
  2. I went back to the VAT Return section and chose the relevant dates and checked the figures were correct (they were).
  3. I un-ticked the “File VAT Return electronically with HMRC” option for the reason given above, but wanted to “Save” the return in QuickFile, so I still clicked “Submit” in lieu of a “Save” button.
  4. Although “File VAT Return electronically with HMRC” was un-ticked, I still got a box warning that I was about to submit to HMRC. I clicked “Cancel” (with fingers crossed! ) on this box and then saw the message saying the return was saved.

So, it all worked out OK, but the box warning of submitting to HMRC still came up even though I’d un-ticked the box.

I checked and nothing was submitted to HMRC, so I think it’s just a cosmetic thing. Perhaps the option could be to “Save” if the box is un-ticked?

Hope it was OK to include this in the same thread - please let me know if you’d prefer I logged it separately.

Many thanks,

Rich.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have passed these comments on to the appropriate person so we can get these points addressed today. Absolutely no problem keeping it on the same thread, it’s all relevant.
