VAT Short period return

Hi

I have newly registered for VAT and as a result, need to submit a short return. I have entered the dates and when I click submit return it does not allow me. It tells me Incorrect VAT period, please check.
The current settings are July, October, January, April as this is what shows on my VAT certificate.

Thank you for your assistance

Hi @Chumps999

One thing to double check in your VAT settings on QuickFile is the VAT Period. This should be the month commencing rather than the month ending.

For example, if your last VAT period was December - February, you should select “Mar, June, Sep, Dec”.

Thank you, so it should be May, August, November, February?

That looks correct

Hi It is still not allowing me. As it is my first I am reclaiming allowable items that go back to 2015, I have entered the dates 01/02/15 - 31/01/18

Actually further to this if i use the dates of the actual period to 31/01/18 then the figures are correct. It has now allowed me to submit. Thank you for your help

That’s right, even though the return submission page suggests it’s for a particular quarter date range, what QuickFile will actually do is pull in any sales or purchase invoice that has not already been covered by a previous return, and which is dated between your originally configured VAT start date and the end of the period you’re submitting. So if you have submitted the return for a quarter and then find another item that you forgot you can still enter it as its proper date (during the previous quarter) and it will be included in the next available return automatically.
