VAT - The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service

Hi Glen, I’ve regularly used your VAT submission feature but for some reason this quarter I’m getting the following error message.
Vat return submission to HMRC failed.
By Gateway : Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service.

I’ve checked the data in the VAT record and it appears to be fine. Help!!!

Ever since I started using the feature I’ve had to change the end date for the period because it always showed the month before, i.e. if VAT end date should be 30/09/15 Quickfile showed it as 30/08/15 so I always changed it to the correct end date. I recently noticed that the Quickfile VAT record asks for the VAT period start month so I change it so that the end month was shown correctly (the start month always showed correctly so I’m assuming it picked up the end I’d entered from the last return). Could this be causing the problem? I have however tried changing it back to what it was and resubmitting but it’s still being rejected.

There’s an email address in your VAT settings Username field. There shouldn’t be an email address here but the ID issued to you from the Government Gateway (usually letters and numbers).

With regards to the month end date, you had the wrong quarterly scheduled set, I’ve changed it now to month commencing Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct, so it should now always select the correct dates.

Brilliant Glen! Imust have changed the user id for some reason; why I couldn’t tell you. Just put it down to old age, i must retire soon. Thanks as ever for your prompt response. VAT return submitted and acknowledged.
