Which opening bank balance to record

I’m trying to complete my opening balances journal entry, and before I commit, I have a question about my opening current account balance.
The opening balance from the bank statement is £919.94 in credit.
I have 2 customers with credit balances, which I have entered as prepayments from before my Quickfile start date so that the account is showing £334.11 in credit.
I now want to enter the bank opening balance on my Quickfile start date from the Modify Bank Account page for that account. Do I enter the opening balance from my bank statement ie £919.94 OR do I enter the opening balance as £585.83 (£919.94 LESS the £334.11 prepayments entered earlier.
Thanks.

Hi @bagman

Just to confirm - you’ve entered the £334.11 as prepayments which are already in the bank account on QuickFile?

If that is the case, you can enter the opening balance as £585.83, which would then give you both the correct prepayments (allocated to your clients) and the correct bank balance.

I am trying to enter our opening balances in a a multi-line journal. The totals at the bottom of the screen match and there are no lines with 0.00 as a figure, but when I try to save the Journal I just get the message ‘There are errors on the form that need to be corrected (highlighted in pink)!’
My colour vision isn’t great to be honest. I can’t see anything being highlighted anyway.
Can I email you a copy of the screen so maybe you can help me find out what’s going wrong please?
Thanks.

Have you filled in the description and notes columns for every journal line as well as selecting the nominal code?

Thank you, Ian. That did the trick.
On the opening balances journal screen it just says, ‘Enter your opening balances here. You can add additional lines where required, as long as all your entries balance.’.
I think another line to say ‘Description and notes mustn’t be blank.’ would be useful.
