Chart of Accounts - Codes not showing in purchases category

Hi I’m trying to show a depreciation expense figure for plant and machinery on my P&L report. I want to create a purchase named Depreciation then assign it to the relevant category but the depreciation-p&m code (8001) does not show up. I know it’s there because it is in my chart of accounts. I did try and create a new 8001 but it says that it already exists. It doesn’t seem to be locked. I also require the same for office/furniture. Why do all the codes show up unlocked on the Chart of Accounts but not in purchases? Or is there another way to show depreciation?. Many thanks.

The way to show depreciation is by journalling the amount rather than raising a purchase.

Bear with me and I’ll see if I can find an existing topic with an explanation
