Recurring Payment Customer Notified in advance

When a client has a direct debit setup for yearly billing (auto bill), whats the best way of ensuring the customer is notified of funds being taken out one month in advance. If possible.

Go careless also notifies the customer when the request is made, which I believe us a requirement of the direct debit guarantee
