Slow Migration over MTD

Just signed up to Quickfile to check over MTD features.
Planning slow migration of accounts to Quickfile. But for now would like to know if only using VAT returns option is ok on it’s own? Without providing any other accounts, bank or other information.

Hi @Martin1968,

Welcome to QuickFile!

I believe what you refer to would be to use our Bridging Software - where you do your accounts outside of QuickFile and just use QF for the submission?

If that is the case then this article should answer some of your questions: VAT Bridging

Hope that help

Under reports on QF there is option for VAT returns. VAT Settings shows “File your electronic VAT Returns and EC Sales Lists directly to HMRC.”.
I assume this files using API but can it be used on it’s own? As moving over accounts and setup will take sometime.

Hi @Martin1968,

If the data needed to create the VAT return is not on QuickFile then you will need to use the Bridging Module as the VAT return generated through QuickFile is based on what data is there. If there is no data then it will not be able to generate a VAT return and you cannot just enter the figures into the relevant boxes.

With the Bridging Module you will be able to manipulate the report to the correct figures with no probelms.

The key driver behind MTD is to get people away from manually transcribing figures from one set of records to another - the idea is that there has to be an uninterrupted digital chain from the point where you first enter your records into software to the point where you submit the VAT return. If you’re raising your sales invoices and entering your purchases directly in QuickFile then that chain is trivial. If you’re keeping your records elsewhere then that software (or spreadsheet, or whatever) needs to do the same thing, and calculate the values for your VAT return boxes by digital links - not manual copying and pasting - from your primary records. If you have that and your other software can export the VAT return totals as a spreadsheet or CSV then you can use the “bridging” module to upload that CSV and submit it to HMRC, and that’s OK for MTD.

But if you don’t have software that can calculate your VAT return from your primary records without manual copy and paste then you will need to adapt your procedures to be compliant with MTD.
