2 Businesses / 1 VAT return?

Hi I have 2 totally separate businesses, both VAT registered (I have one VAT number which I understand I have to use for any VAT business of mine as it’s me who is registered) This is causing a problem with filing VAT returns. I have submitted my VAT return for business A but I can’t find how file a separate VAT return for business B. QF just shows VAT return A as submitted and doesn’t give me an option to do a separate business B return.

How do I get around this please?

I think there’s some confusion here as to who/what is actually registered.

Are you a sole trader and are these businesses both registered as sole trader activities? Are you voluntarily VAT registered?

yes I’m a sole trader and both my businesses are registered as sole trader activities, voluntarily registered

As I understand it you do not submit multiple VAT returns, if you are VAT registered then all your sole trader activities go down on a single VAT return. Quickfile do have options for separate trading styles so you can offer unique branding for each business but the accounts are all done as one, including the VAT.

Thanks for your reply. Isn’t there a way of keeping the 2 business account totally separate?

Yes there is. You could have 2 quickfile accounts however you would need to take the vat return results export to a spreadsheet, combine them together and then use quickfiles bridging module to submit the vat return. The first bridging module submission is free however the rest you need to pay a subscription fee.
