2FA problem twice in 3 months

I’D LIKE TO DELETE THIS BUG REPORT - MY INABILITY TO LOGIN WAS CAUSED BY A TIME ZONE ERROR WITH GOOGLE AUTHENTICATOR DUE TO OUR CLOCKS GOING BACK!

I report here the circumstances of failure of 2FA twice in 3 months further to my ticket requesting turning off of 2FA so I can access my account. I had to make this same request about 31 July 2024 and QFSteve helped me then.

In the earlier instance, I wasn’t aware I had turned 2FA on but apparently I had but nevertheless the supplied codes were rejected by QF login hence the intervention of QFSteve.

A feature of my use of QF is that I generally only use QF quarterly when I post all entries for the preceding quarter and then submit the VAT return. So I will have accessed QF towards the end of August/beginning of September to submit the July VAT return with no problem. But now, 2 months on, I have a problem accessing your QF.

Let’s be clear, I don’t use Authenticator for any other authentication, I haven’t changed my hardware or software that I can remember other than, perhaps, Android upgrade(s) on my smartphone.

I’d be grateful for your thoughts.

Regards
P

Hi @pvmmvp54

What app are you using for the authentication codes?

The codes generated are time based, and in some circumstances the time will lose sync so the wrong code is being generated. If you’re using Google Authenticator, they have a help guide to resync the time in their app. Other apps will likely have the same option, too.

Added with British Summer Time (BST) ending on Saturday, this could have affected the code generation on this occasion.

Hi, QFMathew!

Would you believe it? Logged in first time today just now! So it was a time zone/clock change problem! I’m stunned but relieved at the same time. That’ll teach me to work on a Sunday!

Thanks for your help, I’m very grateful :slightly_smiling_face:

PS I use Google Authenticator
PPS I’ll cancel my Bug Report
