Accounting for Sales of internet subscription services

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has accounted for sale of internet subscription services, and the best way they found to do it.

Did you setup individual sales accounts for each subscriber, or did you do 1 monthly sales invoices with total subscription value and keep backup paperwork with details?

If anyone has tips on what worked for them I’d love to hear them!

Best,
Alan

@Glenn are you able to advice perhaps how you record your SaaS subscriptions?
Do you record individual client accounts or a monthly summary?

Cheers -Alan.

Hi Alan

I guess it would depend on the number of customers. Once you reach a certain threshold (maybe 100 +) it may be simpler to just bulk log sales, particularly if you have another back office system that’s already recording detailed information on individual subscriptions, payment history and generating invoices.

It’s the headline figures that you really want to pull into QuickFile and it may be easier for you to derive this from a back office system or a payment processor. As long as these figures are supported by a backing report, that would be sufficient. That said if you’re dealing with < 100 customers and you’re using the recurring invoice tool to manage your subscriptions it’s fine to post invoices to individual client records. Just depends on your setup really.
