How do I stop the additional notes field being auto populated with a note I wrote to a client. this note now shows on every invoice I create and I need to manually delete it each time.

If you go to account settings, select invoice customisation. Click on the invoice notes box on the left, and that will allow you amend the default notes for new invoices going forward
