First time on the forum, so apologies if this isn’t in the correct area.
I have been manually downloading .qif files to upload bank transactions to QF for almost 3yrs with no issues. This morning I ran the usual routine of logging into my bank and selecting the correct date range, downloading the .qif file. I then go to QF to upload the statement, chose the format and selected the file.
The first time it did not notify of any duplicates for me to check as it normally does, when it finished the balance on QF was showing almost double what it does in my bank?
I deleted the batch file and went again through the same process, this time it alerted me on a couple of duplicates which is what it normally does. Again though the balance was way higher than that of what is showing on my actual bank balance?
Yes, I always check these. QF normally alerts me to any that look the same so I can check and either accept or ignore during the importing process. The balance is out by like £1500 or so. 1st time this has happened in 3yrs of following the same process.
I think there must have been a glitch with quickfile on the QIF file I uploaded that didnt give me any possible duplicates to look at which was out of the ordinary.
I downloaded all transactions from QF and my bank right back to the first date where I found a matching balance on both, then manually went through each transaction matching them up. In doing so I found there was in fact a duplicate, but because the descriptions were different on each the system never flagged it up.
One came from the bank for a cheque that cleared, the other was a manual payment that I must have made to the account from the person who payed me by cheque. So I removed the manual duplicate from QF and then re-exported the bank data from the date where the balances last matched and now all is good. All transactions match and the balance is now correct.
