Bank transaction matching

I have been using QF for a while now but have still one issue i cant seem to get my head around.

Why cant i match bank transfers coming from one account to another (that are both synced to QF)? I tag them as a transfer and it just makes a duplicate in the other account rather than matching it? So i then have to delete the auto synced entry

What am i doing wrong? Surely its supposed to, all the other software i have used in the past did.

Hi @Ian_Wilmshurst

They should match, providing:

  • The transactions are on the same date
  • They’re the same value and currency
  • The matching transaction is untagged

If any of those aren’t matched, then it won’t be suggested.

If you’re seeing something different to this, please let us know and we can investigate.

So you are saying i should not be tagging them?

Ian

Sorry for any confusion.

Yes, you should be tagging them, but when you tag the one end of the transaction, it will prompt you for any matching transactions that match the above criteria. If none exist, it will create a matching one for you.

If you have 2 bank feeds, it’s probably best to wait until both feeds have updated before tagging the one. For example, Starling would instantly show you a “money in” transaction, but if you have another feed with Santander (or another bank), the matching transaction won’t be imported until the following day.

Hope that makes sense?

Yes it does and that is what i am doing, its never worked like that for me?

Let me send you a private message and we can take a look for you

Sometimes I have this issue when tagging from one account instead of the other. Its not an issue because I’ve learnt to use the other account instead.

But essentially when you tag a payment as a transfer it will ask you which bank the money came out of/in to and then there will be a drop down with a list of results. If you don’t pick a result it will add an entry.
