| Having previously submitted 3 quarterly updates, I now can’t connect to HMRC for MTD ITSA. It says connection failed. I thought it was because the HMRC site was down yesterday, but I still can’t connect today. |

Hello @tonybrown
I would reccomend going into the Reports > HMRC screen and removing the connection (red X).
You can then set up a new connection with a further 18 month authorisation.
Hi Steve I have the same issue all I get is this message: HMRC Connection Error
NO_OBLIGATIONS_FOUND. No obligations found using this filter. I have disconnected the account and re connected but still get the same message.
Any help to get the connection working again.
Hello @Mattc
If you have already removed and reconnected your HMRC MTD ITSA account, I would reccomend you contact HMRC directly, as in the background we have checked the details you have provided ant nothing is being returned by HMRC.
I had a similar issue a few days ago as well. Today after much chasing of HMRC (2 or so hours trying to find someone from the correct team) HMRC tell me that they think it is a QF problem. So QF think its an HMRC issue and HMRC think its a QF issue. I am planning on reestablishing the link (again - will be the third time) to see if the fact that we are now past 5 April 2026 changes anything. If the link still doesnt work, my plan is to set up an account with another MTD provider offering free software and seek to establish the link with HMRC on a competitors software. If I get the same error on a second software providers system then it would appear to be an HMRC issue. If the other MTD software provider link works then it would look like it’s a QF issue. I will try and update the forum on what happens but if anyone else has a chance to try this plan out as well any feedback would be appreciated.
Update: I have deleted the link on QF and reinstated it. QF is still showing no businesses to report for MTD. So I tried ClearBooks and got the same error message. ClearBooks also told me to make sure that I was signed up to MTD. Therefore I went to my HMRC self assessment account and yes HMRC website confirmed that I was signed up for MTD. HMRC website said that I should add MTD to my self assessment account, which I did. I then went back to QF and deleted the link and reinstated it. This did not fix the issue. I still got the message that no businesses to report in MTD. So it looks like its an HMRC issue.
That said HMRC systems don’t always update immediately and so I will delete the QF link tomorrow and try and reinstate it in case the HMRC system updated overnight. If it still doesnt work then its an HMRC issue.
If anyone wishes to discuss with HMRC I have found to best way to get to the MTD team is to phone the self assessment team on 0300 2003310. They will tell you that they dont have anything to do with MTD etc but persevere as they have an internal number to call when they get MTD questions they can’t deal with. The people on this internal number seem to have some idea of what is going on and will try to investigate things for you.
