Chrome downloads the PDF instead of previewing

Hi there,

I would need some help regarding printing from QF.
When I try to print an invoice, the program opens a new window saying Generating PDF, but nothing happens. Instead it opens Windows Explorer and prompts me to save the file. Once saved I can open and print the invoice. Is there a way to print straight away without having to save first? Not sure if something is wrong with settings on computer, but I can print from all the other programs as I should, this only happens when using QF. I use Acrobat Reader for PDF files if that is relevant at all.

Any help /suggestions would be appreciated!

I think that is how it is supposed to work. The button label 'print' may be a bit misleading here, it is more 'generate a PDF version of this so you can save a local copy to do what you want with it, which could include printing' Obviously that would look ridiculous on a button!

I am not sure if that is the case, as my colleague gets to the same window (Generating PDF), but it does actually create a PDF (Acrobat Reader) file on screen, which she can save or print. She is the administrator if that makes any difference. Other than that it can only be some settings issue as far as I can imagine.
Would anyone have come across this and knows the solution please let me know!

The way it’s handled (whether it’s displayed or downloaded) is handled by your web browser. Check your settings to see what it’s set to do. Google Chrome for example, generally always shows them rather than downloads them, but it can be changed.

I was thinking along the same line, but then why does it only happen when using QF but not with other programmes? I had a look at printer setting and as far as I can see it is all set to print as opposed to save. Not a Chrome expert though…

@csaba can you confirm which browser you are using?

It’s definitely a browser setting, if you let me know which one you’re using I can probably explain how to fix this.

It is Chrome Version 46.0.2490.86 m.

Type the following into the Chrome address bar:

chrome://plugins/

Is the Chrome PDF Viewer enabled?

Also it’s worth updating or re-installing Adobe Reader.

https://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Glenn, you are a genius! I have used the plugins in the past, but would not have thought about it again!
Thank you for the help, invaluable as always!

Great to hear, I’m sure it will crop up with other users, so it’s good to have a working solution.
